Two suspected area boys have died after allegedly stabbing each other during a fight over the sharing of money at Ogunpa, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 12:45 p.m. after the two men disagreed over how to share the money given to them, with the dispute escalating into violence.
Sources said both men allegedly took knives by force from a trader’s shop during the confrontation.
One of the men reportedly stabbed his colleague in the right wrist, while the other plunged his knife into the former’s neck, killing him at the scene.
The injured man was reportedly rushed to Naomi Hospital in Oke Padre but died from excessive blood loss before he could receive effective medical attention.
Although the exact cause of the disagreement had not been established, accounts circulating in the area suggested that the fight stemmed from allegations that one of the men had taken a larger share of the money.
The incident prompted the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Iyaganku Division to visit the scene and the hospital where the second victim was taken. The bodies were subsequently evacuated.
When contacted, the Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident, saying the remains of the deceased had been deposited in a hospital mortuary.
