Kano State government has announced cash prizes totalling N27 million and awarded Umrah (Lesser Hajj) slots to outstanding participants at the 41st National Qur’anic Competition.
The state deputy governor, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, announced the rewards yesterday, on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf during the closing ceremony at the School for Arabic Studies (SAS), Kano.
Garo said the competition demonstrated the importance attached to the Holy Qur’an, Islamic education and the proper upbringing of young people, describing it as a platform for promoting unity, moral values and peaceful coexistence.
He stressed that Qur’anic education should go beyond recitation and memorisation to include the practical application of its teachings, such as honesty, respect for parents and responsible conduct.
The deputy governor said the state government had provided N27 million in cash prizes for winners across various categories, while the overall outstanding male and female participants were also awarded Umrah slots in addition to cash prizes.
He urged parents and teachers to continue supporting young people in their pursuit of education and encouraged participants who did not win to remain determined and prepare for future competitions.
Garo also commended the Emir of Kano, His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II; Malam Nura Hussaini, Chairman of Azman Group; Alhaji Abdulmunaf Sarina; and other benefactors for supporting the participants with additional prizes.
He called on residents to support both Islamic and Western education as a means of promoting peace, unity and sustainable development in the state.
Earlier, the Emir of Kano, His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II, represented by the Dokajin Kano, Alhaji Mustapha Abubakar, congratulated the winners and other participants.
The Emir encouraged the students to sustain their Qur’anic studies while broadening their knowledge through other religious texts and Western education.
He also provided ₦13.7 million in cash prizes for distribution among winners across various categories.
In his remarks, the Kano State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Auwal, commended the teachers and the Musabaqa Board of Trustees for their commitment to Qur’anic education.
He assured the participants of Governor Yusuf’s continued support and expressed optimism that they would excel in future national and international competitions.
