Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi has received the ‘Beyond the Pitch’ Award at the 2026 Best of Africa Awards in London in recognition of his humanitarian efforts and contributions to community development in Nigeria.
The Coventry City and Super Eagles forward was honoured for using his profile to support social development, healthcare initiatives and youth empowerment.
A major part of Awoniyi’s grassroots intervention is his funding of the Kwara Kiddies League, which provides young footballers across Ilorin and Kwara State with opportunities to develop their talents through organised competitions.
The initiative also provides football kits, equipment and cash prizes to encourage participation and support the development of young players.
The annual Best of Africa Awards, supported by the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), recognise individuals of African heritage for their contributions to social change.
Reacting to the recognition in a post on Instagram, Awoniyi highlighted the importance of giving back to society and making meaningful use of opportunities.
“Life can give you so much, but what truly matters is what you choose to do with what you’ve been given,” he wrote.
“Grateful to receive the PFA Beyond the Pitch Award at the Best of Africa Awards 2026.”
The award recognises Awoniyi’s efforts beyond football, particularly his commitment to creating opportunities for young people through grassroots sports development.
