The Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has arraigned a suspected TikToker, Rabi’u Sani Zage, before a magistrate court over allegations of defaming its personnel through videos circulated on social media.
The defendant was arraigned on eight counts bordering on defamation of character and related offences following allegations that he recorded and shared videos of KAROTA officials performing their duties, accompanied by comments intended to ridicule and damage their reputation.
In a statement issued on Friday, KAROTA’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim Sharada, alleged that the suspect had repeatedly recorded and broadcast videos of the agency’s personnel on TikTok.
The statement said the defendant was fond of posting the videos “with injurious comments against personnel of the agency,” adding that he had been apprehended on several occasions while engaging in the act.
KAROTA further disclosed that Zage had earlier signed an undertaking at the Farm Centre Police Division, promising to stop making and circulating content targeting its personnel, particularly officers deployed to strategic traffic control points across Kano metropolis.
However, the agency alleged that he continued with the activities despite the undertaking.
The defendant reportedly pleaded guilty to all eight counts before Magistrate Court No. 7, Noman’s Land, presided over by Magistrate Halima Wali.
Following his plea, the court ordered that he be remanded in a correctional facility pending further proceedings on Monday, November 2, 2026.
His counsel also applied for bail, but the court adjourned the application until November 2 for a ruling.
