The Zamfara State Police Command has neutralised over 30 suspected bandits while repelling an attack on Bukkuyum town, Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The Command said the bandits attempted to invade the town on October 28, 2026, but were engaged in a fierce gun battle by police operatives working in collaboration with local civil security outfits.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued in Gusau on Saturday.
Abubakar said security operatives displayed exceptional courage and professionalism in defending the town despite disparity in firepower, thereby preventing the assailants from gaining access to the community.
He said more than 30 bodies suspected to be those of neutralised bandits were later discovered in surrounding farmlands.
“The discovery suggests that the attackers sustained significant casualties during the confrontation. It is noteworthy that armed bandits are known to evacuate their casualties from battle scenes. However, the actual number of casualties remains subject to further verification,” the statement said.
According to the Command, the successful defence of Bukkuyum averted potential loss of lives, destruction of property and displacement of residents.
It added that preliminary security assessment showed that sustained operational pressure has forced some of the remaining bandits to flee the state.
The Command restated its commitment to sustain the clearance operations in collaboration with other security agencies to rid the area of criminal elements and restore public confidence.
