The Vice-Presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Alhaji Lawal Daura, has expressed confidence that the party’s presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, will reposition Nigeria’s economy, education sector and security architecture within four years if elected president in the 2027 general elections.
Daura described Makinde as the most competent and credible among the presidential contenders, citing his record of governance, transparency, accountability and development in Oyo State as evidence of his capacity to lead the country.
He also assured Nigerians, particularly those in the northern region, that a Makinde-Daura administration would operate as an inclusive, four-year transitional government of national unity, focused on resetting the country’s economy, education system, security architecture and socio-political environment.
The APM vice-presidential candidate gave the assurance at the weekend while receiving leaders of the Northern Patriotic Front (NPF) at the party’s presidential campaign headquarters in Abuja, according to a statementsigned by Richard Nnanna Ihediwa, Director of Strategic Communications, Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organization (MDPCO).
The delegation visited to confer an award on Makinde and formally declare its support for his presidential ambition and the APM ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Daura expressed appreciation to the northern stakeholders for their commitment to the campaign, insisting that Makinde’s record in public service, national vision, productivity and service delivery placed him ahead of other presidential candidates.
He urged Nigerians to look beyond ethnic and regional considerations when choosing their next leaders, stressing the need to assess candidates based on their track records, competence and contributions to national development.
“I was happy when you said that you went to Oyo State and you have confirmed the quality of governance and unprecedented development by our presidential candidate. So, I throw a challenge that anyone who is still doubting whether our candidate is the most competent to be elected as president should examine his antecedents and performance,” Daura said.
He noted that before entering politics and eventually becoming governor of Oyo State, Makinde had established himself as a successful businessman with considerable experience in finance.
According to him, Makinde’s achievements in public office, coupled with his personal integrity, transparency and commitment to accountability, distinguish him from other presidential hopefuls.
“Beyond his personal integrity, we should also examine his record in public office. What has he achieved? Look at his performance. His transparency and accountability set him apart.
“We in Nigeria are confronted with enormous challenges, particularly poverty and poor governance. We cannot afford to continue supporting leadership without examining what individuals have done with the opportunities entrusted to them,” he added.
Daura maintained that anyone seeking the country’s highest political office must be prepared to account for their achievements, management of public resources and contributions to the welfare of citizens.
He argued that leaders who demonstrate transparency and accountability while occupying public offices deserve serious consideration by the electorate.
The APM vice-presidential candidate also commended the Northern Patriotic Front for promoting people-centred democracy, urging political parties, politicians and other stakeholders to intensify public enlightenment to enable Nigerians to make informed decisions during the elections.
He further explained that the proposed four-year administration would serve as a transitional government, laying the foundation for sustainable governance while addressing Nigeria’s fundamental economic, educational, security and political challenges.
Earlier, the President of the Northern Patriotic Front, Alhaji Ali Abacha, pledged the support of political stakeholders in the northern region for the Makinde-Daura ticket.
Abacha said the region was comfortable with Makinde’s candidacy, his Reset Nigeria agenda and his commitment to an inclusive four-year transitional government.
He said Makinde’s performance as governor of Oyo State had distinguished him as one of the most competent presidential contenders, adding that his achievements informed the decision of northern stakeholders to identify with his vision for national renewal.
The NPF president also commended Makinde for selecting Daura, whom he described as a security expert, as his running mate.
According to him, the choice of Daura reassures Nigerians of the ticket’s commitment to confronting the country’s security challenges.
Abacha assured the campaign organisation that the NPF would sustain its mobilisation efforts and work towards securing victory for the Makinde-Daura ticket in the 2027 presidential election.
