The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) is expanding educational opportunities for young people from the Niger Delta, with beneficiaries recording outstanding academic achievements at universities in the United Kingdom.
Two scholarship beneficiaries, Prince-Timothy Wokoma and Joy Johnny, have received recognition for their academic performances in their respective universities, highlighting the programme’s investment in education and human capital development.
Wokoma was named the Best Overall Student in the MSc Agriculture and Environmental Sciences programme after graduating with a Distinction.
He was also awarded a £100 prize by his university in recognition of his outstanding overall performance in the programme, according to a letter notifying him of the award.
Similarly, Johnny, a student of the University of Aberdeen, received the George and Lilian Adam Smith Prize worth £500 after obtaining the highest dissertation mark.
The National Chairman of PAP Phase Two, Ibena Rufus Salvation, said the achievements demonstrated the value of sustained investment in education and the opportunities provided by the programme to enable Niger Delta youths to compete favourably on the international stage.
Salvation commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting and sustaining the Presidential Amnesty Programme, noting that continued government commitment had helped preserve its human capital development initiatives.
He also acknowledged the PAP Administrator, Dr Dennis Brutu Otuaro, for his role in implementing the programme, particularly its scholarship and educational development components.
According to Salvation, the beneficiaries’ academic achievements demonstrate that resources committed to the programme are translating into educational opportunities and measurable outcomes for participants.
He said sustained investment in education would enable more young people from the Niger Delta to acquire knowledge, develop professional skills and contribute meaningfully to their communities and the country.
Salvation urged other scholarship beneficiaries to remain committed to their studies and strive for academic excellence, saying their achievements would further demonstrate the value of investing in the education and future of young people in the region.
