The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) is expanding educational opportunities for young people from the Niger Delta, with beneficiaries recording outstanding academic achievements in universities in the United Kingdom.

The national chairman of PAP Phase Two, Ibena Rufus Salvation, said the scholars’ achievements demonstrated the value of sustained investment in education and the opportunities the programme provides, enabling Niger Delta youths to compete favourably on the international stage.

Salvation spoke following the recognition of two scholarship beneficiaries, Prince-Timothy Wokoma and Joy Johnny, for their outstanding academic performances in their respective universities.

Wokoma was named the Best Overall Student in the MSc Agriculture and Environmental Sciences programme after graduating with a Distinction.
In recognition of his performance, he was awarded a £100 prize by his university. A letter notifying him of the award stated that the prize was in recognition of his outstanding overall performance in the programme.

Similarly, Joy Johnny, a student at the University of Aberdeen, received the George and Lilian Adam Smith Prize, worth £500, for achieving the highest dissertation mark.

Reacting to the achievements, Salvation said the successes recorded by the beneficiaries reflected the importance of maintaining investment in education and ensuring that young people from the Niger Delta have access to quality learning opportunities beyond the country.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting and sustaining the Presidential Amnesty Programme, noting that continued government commitment had helped preserve the programme’s human capital development initiatives.

Salvation also acknowledged the PAP Administrator, Dr Dennis Brutu Otuaro, for his role in implementing the programme, particularly its scholarship and educational development components.

According to him, the beneficiaries’ achievements demonstrate that the resources committed to the programme are translating into educational opportunities and measurable outcomes for its participants.

He said the programme’s investment in education should be sustained to enable more young people from the Niger Delta to acquire knowledge, develop professional skills and contribute meaningfully to their communities and the country.

Salvation urged other scholarship beneficiaries to remain committed to their studies and strive for academic excellence, saying their achievements would help demonstrate the value of investing in the education and future of young people in the region.
