The executive chairman of Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Mallam Masud Aliyu Umar, has died in a fatal road accident while returning from a political meeting in Bauchi, barely three months after his election.
The accident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening at Konkiyal village in Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
The late chairman was returning to Zaki Local Government Area after attending a critical stakeholders’ meeting of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), convened by the party earlier on Sunday in Bauchi, when the unfortunate incident occurred.
LEADERSHIP reports that Masud Aliyu Umar was elected chairman of Zaki Local Government Area on August 17, 2026, alongside the chairpersons of the other 19 local government areas in the state.
Before his election, he served as director-general of the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
Reacting to his death, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, expressed deep sorrow and shock over the tragic loss.

Governor Mohammed described the late Umar as a dedicated public servant, a committed grassroots politician, and a compassionate leader whose contributions to public service and community development would remain indelible in the history of Bauchi State.
Reflecting on his previous role as director-general of SEMA, the Governor said the deceased demonstrated remarkable commitment to emergency response, disaster management and humanitarian interventions across the state.
“His tenure at SEMA was characterised by dedication to alleviating the sufferings of vulnerable citizens and providing timely interventions to communities affected by emergencies and other humanitarian challenges,” he said.
The Governor added that, as Executive Chairman of Zaki Local Government Area, Umar continued to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to grassroots development, particularly through initiatives aimed at empowering youths and women, improving livelihoods and promoting inclusive development.
He noted that although his tenure as chairman was relatively brief, his passion for public service, accessibility to the people and commitment to improving the welfare of his constituents distinguished his LEADERSHIP.
Governor Mohammed further observed that his death was not only a devastating loss to his immediate family and the people of Zaki Local Government Area but also a significant loss to Bauchi State, particularly the public service and local government administration.
He said the deceased’s experience, dedication and contributions would be greatly missed.
While praying for the peaceful repose of his soul, the governor urged his family, political associates, friends and the people of Zaki Local Government Area to find strength and comfort in Almighty Allah during this difficult period.
He prayed that Allah, in His infinite mercy, would forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
The Governor also announced that the funeral prayer for the deceased would take place on Monday, November 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Palace of the District Head, Mur Mur, Zaki Local Government Area, Bauchi State.
