The executive chairman of Zaki local government area of Bauchi State, Mallam Mas’ud Aliyu Umar, has died in a road accident while returning from a political meeting in Bauchi, barely three months after his election.
The accident occurred on Sunday evening at Konkiyal village in Darazo local government area.
The deceased was returning to Zaki council after attending a critical stakeholders’ meeting of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), convened by the party earlier on Sunday in Bauchi, when the unfortunate incident occurred.
LEADERSHIP recalls that Umar was elected chairman of Zaki council on August 17, 2026, alongside the chairmen of other 19 local government areas in the state.
Before his election, he served as director-general of the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

Reflecting on his previous role as director-general of SEMA, the governor said the deceased demonstrated remarkable commitment to emergency response, disaster management and humanitarian interventions across the state.
He noted that although his tenure as chairman of Zaki LG was relatively brief, his passion for public service, accessibility to the people and commitment to improving the welfare of his constituents distinguished his leadership.
Governor Mohammed further observed that his death was not only a devastating loss to his immediate family and the people of Zaki local government area but also a significant loss to Bauchi State, particularly the public service and local government administration. He said the deceased’s experience, dedication and contributions would be greatly missed.
While praying for the peaceful repose of his soul, the governor urged his family, political associates, friends and the people of Zaki local government area to find strength and comfort in Almighty Allah during this difficult period.
He prayed that Allah, in His infinite mercy, would forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
Also, Speaker Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman extended saddest commiserations to the family and people of Zaki local government over the death of its executive chairman, Hon. Mas’ud Aliyu Umar.
In a condolence message issued by his media aide Mukhtar Garba Kobi, the speaker described the death of Hon. Mas’ud as a big loss not only to his immediate family but to the people of Zaki and the state as a whole, adding that the late leader served with diligence, resilience, selflessness and compassion.
Abubakar stated further that the contributions given by late Hon. Mas’ud to the overall development of lives, local businesses and various communities would forever be cherished, remembered and benefitted. “He alleviated the sufferings of destitute, revived the disaster ravaged families and provided the required interventions instantly to communities; his leadership styles and impacts to lives should be emulated.”
The speaker therefore on behalf of himself, the Honorable Members and managemeng staff of the Bauchi State House of Assembly prayed to Almighty Allah to repose Hon. Mas’ud’s departed soul while calling on his immediate family, friends and people to include him in daily prayers.
Also, he prayed to Allah to grant fortitude to his family members, associates and staff of Zaki LGA in order to bear his loss and adopt his legacies of honesty, hardwork and prudence.
