Governor Abdullahi Sule says he deliberately endures insults and provocations to keep Nasarawa State peaceful and attractive to investors.
Sule stated this on Monday in Lafia when he inaugurated the Nasarawa State APC Campaign Council for the 2027 elections.
The governor said his much-criticised patience and humility were not weakness but an economic strategy.
“They keep saying I’m patient, they keep saying I’m humble. I was not born to be humble or to be insulted or abused. I was also born to be a man of my own. But as a leader, you must be humble,” he said.
“I endure insults to keep Nasarawa peaceful for investors because industries don’t come where there are crises. Investors don’t come where there is no peace. So that is the reason why I’m willing to take a lot of bullets from most places,” he added.
Sule said Nasarawa, with the highest number of first-class traditional rulers and huge deposits of agricultural and mineral resources, is too complex to be governed with pride and aggression.
“I’m a governor of industrialisation. If you are not humble and patient, what can you do?” he asked.
The governor apologised for omissions in the campaign council list and announced that President Bola Tinubu has approved $2.9 billion to generate 1,000 megawatts for northern states. He said the Minister of Power will be in Lafia on
Thursday to commission a 2-megawatt mini-grid at the Federal University, Lafia.
He charged the council to deliver APC from top to bottom, warning that re-electing the President without an APC governor and House of Assembly would be half the job done.
Also speaking, APC governorship hopeful Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada said his ambition is not about personalities but about the prosperity of the state.
“With all sense of responsibility, today marks the beginning of the real journey. The beginning of the journey to where and for whom? To the prosperity of Nasarawa State, and for whom? For the people of Nasarawa State,” Wadada said.
“Why we are here today and the task ahead of us is beyond Wadada, is beyond Engineer A. A. Sule, is beyond each and every one of us. It is about the people of Nasarawa State.”
Wadada assured the gathering that he will not downplay the legacies of his predecessors.
“We are not coming to downplay anything or anybody. We are coming to sustain, retain, deepen, and broaden the scope of legacies that have been put before us. And we shall be fair and just to all.”
Appealing for unity across divides, he added: “If you have any doubt about Wadada because you and I speak different dialects, or come from different zones, local governments or practise different faiths, remember one thing: my late father had no boundaries. He was everywhere, and everywhere was for him. And that is what he taught me. If for any reason I have offended you, knowingly or unknowingly, wittingly or unwittingly, I beg you, please forgive me.”
He described the inauguration as the beginning of a real journey, thanking respected citizens of the state who answered the call of the government and party leadership to serve on the campaign council. He said the journey is about the prosperity of Nasarawa State and for the benefit of its people.
Drawing an analogy from books, he said life comes in chapters, with the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Adamu representing chapter one.
He explained that his aspiration is aimed at deepening and expanding the development already initiated by Governor Sule, stressing that he is not coming to downplay anyone or any legacy but to sustain, retain, and broaden the scope of achievements on the ground.
