The Federal Government has provided a way for Nigerians to check whether they have been selected for its ₦50,000 monthly cash relief programme for vulnerable households.
The intervention, known as the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), is designed to provide financial assistance to poor and vulnerable Nigerians.
Beneficiaries are selected from the National Social Register and verified national identity records. The government says individuals do not need to submit applications or pay anyone to be considered.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to check your selection status.
Step 1: Identify your payment provider
The Federal Government has approved five digital financial service providers to handle payments under the programme.
They are:
- ALAT by Wema Bank
- MoMo PSB
- NairaGram
- OPay
- Moniepoint
Step 2: Dial your provider’s USSD code
Using the phone number associated with your records, dial the relevant code for your payment provider.
The codes are:
| Payment provider | USSD code |
| ALAT by Wema | 94523# |
| MoMo PSB | 6710# |
| NairaGram | 72600# |
| OPay | 95520# |
| Moniepoint | 557327# |
Step 3: Select the eligibility-check option
After dialling the relevant code, follow the instructions displayed on your phone and select the option to check your eligibility.
You will be informed whether you have been selected for the intervention.
Step 4: What happens if you are selected?
If your name appears on the beneficiary list, follow the instructions provided by your payment provider.
Selected beneficiaries will also receive an SMS informing them of their selection and requesting their consent to receive the money.
You will need to confirm your acceptance by following the instructions in the message.
Step 5: Receive your ₦50,000
After accepting the offer, a mobile wallet will be opened or linked to your phone number and National Identification Number (NIN).
The government says the ₦50,000 will then be credited to the wallet, with a confirmation message sent by the payment provider.
Beneficiaries can withdraw the money through POS agents, access it through their providers’ channels or transfer it to their bank accounts.
What if you are not selected?
The government says the payments are being made in phases and not everyone will be included in the first batch.
Therefore, not receiving an SMS immediately does not necessarily mean you have been permanently excluded from the programme.
However, the government has clarified that the intervention is targeted at selected households and there is no public application process
