Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, yesterday expressed sadness over the incessant killings of operatives of the EbubeAgu Security Outfit, Ebonyi State Command insisting that those calling for its disbandment were responsible for the attacks.

Umahi said the security outfit is a creation of the state law and anyone calling for its disbandment must first of all set aside the state law that created it.

The governor expressed the displeasure at the New State Executive Council Chambers, Government House Abakaliki while reacting to the presentation of the report of the Commission of inquiry into the Ekoli Eddah crisis that led to the death of a police inspector, a seven months pregnant wife of Ebubeagu commander and two others.

The chairman of the South East Governor’s Forum emphasised that the security outfit have come to stay in the state noting that there had been so much killings in Ezza North LGA, Ohaozara LGA and Isu axis in Onicha LGA.

He said he has mandated the commissioner for information and state orientation, Barr. Uchenna Orji to to compile the names of all the EbubeAgu Security operatives that has been killed including the seven months pregnant woman.

“There are people who have been insisting, castigating and giving fake news on Ebubeagu so that the outfit will be disbanded. There is no way else to doubt who are the people instigating these killings.

“We have so much killings in Ezza North, we have so much killings in Ohaozara, we have killings in Isu axis. In Isu a traditional ruler was abducted and killed up to today, nothing has been said about it. We have so much killings of Ebubeagu personals.

“Government officials are going to do a comprehensive petition and submit it to all the quarters that are concerned,” he said.

Governor Umahi alleged that a governorship candidate recently boasted that he has entered into agreement with a judge that this week, Ebubeagu will be disbanded.

“The man that says he has knowledge has forgotten that Ebubeagu is a creation of state law. No one can disband Ebubeagu without setting aside the law. Even if he goes ahead to get a judge to disband Ebubeagu, there is still Appeal Court and Supreme Court.

“So, Ebubeagu has come to stay except all cases are tried at Supreme Court. I have not asked Ebubeagu to go and attack anybody and any Ebubeagu that infringes on the right of anybody must be prosecuted.

“We have over five of them that are facing trial. We can’t vouch that every Ebubeagu is a saint. They are the product of the society but they have done more good than bad. We must keep an eye on those instigating the people killing members of the Ebubeagu. My directive is that any Ebubeagu operative that infringes on the right of anybody including members of the opposition must be arrested and prosecuted”.

Governor Umahi also alleged that some of the security personnel moving with the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are bandits clothed on security agencies uniforms.

“We are wondering where the PDP governorship candidate got the number of uniformed people with him. We have come to the conclusion that this is not proper security people but are bandits that have been given uniforms. We insist that security agencies that would be assigned to politicians must come from Ebonyi State, so that we know who is who and the security chiefs should be able to control them,” he said.
