9 Security Operatives Killed, 6 Missing In Niger Attack

Nine security operatives were killed in an ambush Munya local government area of Niger State gunmen suspected to be bandits yesterday.

It was learnt that there was a gun duel between the bandits and the joint security operatives at a gas pipeline laying site in the area.

Sources hinted that reinforcement from the Army was on the way when they were ambushed by the bandits who killed nine and injured eight others.

Findings revealed that an Army Major was killed and eight soldiers were injured, four DSS operatives were killed and two are missing, while four vigilante members were killed and two are missing.

It was gathered that the bandits also vandalised the gas pipeline project and target the workers for abduction.

When contacted, Niger State  commissioner for internal security, Emmanuel Umar, told  LEADERSHIP  that there was a gun duel between the joint security forces and bandits.

He said he was awaiting the detailed report on the attack.
