The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu has promised to reconstruct the collapsed Tungan Madaki Bridge along Nnamdi Azikwe Airport Road in the council.

Maikalangu who made this promise when he led the management of the council, to inspect the collapsed bridge yesterday, said that his administration is committed to providing the dividends of democracy to the people.

The chairman, who spoke with the community leaders and youths during the inspection of the bridge, explained that they decided to inspect the collapsed bridge to have a correct assessment of the work and also identify an alternative route pending the time a total construction will be done.

“The numbers of commuters, business owners, and farmers who are supposed to transport their farm products to the neighboring communities will be majorly affected by this collapsed bridge. Students can no longer cross the bridge to go to school.

“This bridge links most communities to Zuba, even the College of Education Zuba is not far from this bridge and students of the institution are stranded because they can no longer access the road as a result of the collapsed bridge.

“I was also told that some Primary school pupils nearly lost their lives on this collapsed bridge during the rainy season, because of trying to gain access to their school. This is a sad development. The road is the only link connecting the Tungan Madaki community to all other communities.

“We are grateful that no life has been lost in this collapsed bridge. This is why I decided to inspect the damaged bridge and the council will commence the reconstruction of the bridge,” he said.
