Lagos Signs MOU With E-Tranzact On Management Of Open Spaces, Setbacks

Lagos State government through the Lagos State Planning And Environment Monitoring Authority (LASPEMA) and E-Tranzact on Tuesday sealed partnership on management of setbacks and open spaces and improve beautification of the environment in the Lagos metropolis.

The Special Adviser, e-GIS and Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Olajide Babatunde, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development , Engineer Sotire Olumide who represented the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins, signed on behalf of Lagos State government , while the Managing Director, CEO E-Tranzact , Mr. Niyi Toluwalope signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of his firm enabling expansion of LASPEMA’s operations and operations in urban development.

Speaking during the signing of the MOU held at the Lagos State government Secretariat located in Alausa, Ikeja, the General Manager LASPEMA, Mr. Daisi Oso said the strategic initiative  is in line with the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu THEMES agenda of making Lagos State a smart city, saying the partnership with E-Tranzact will help to liaise with the informal sectors who use the setbacks and incidental spaces in the state.

According to him, the influx of people from the hinterland into the state and compelled to live on incidental open spaces necessitated the establishment of the agency in 2001 by the Asiwaju Bola Tinubu led government in the state.

He explained that the government’s intervention was to eradicate the nuisance caused by the misuse and abuse of the city dwellers, adding that the agency’s approach and strategies so far has helped to sanitize the urban space.

Oso said the agency has also engaged in a series of stakeholders to identify and tackle all major challenges for possible nexus and collaboration on setback management with encroachers.

‘’ We believe that this step we are embarking on today by signing the MOU will not only sanitize this vital sector but will also help support our efforts towards creating jobs for a larger number of Lagosians.

Also speaking while the Managing Director, CEO E-Tranzact , Mr. Niyi Toluwalope said E-Tranzact is a Nigeria-based company principally engaged in providing payment service solutions and transaction switching.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of eTranzact, Mr. Niyi Toluwalope, said his organization is partnering with Lagos State Government for social development, noting that the project would develop solutions on data, enumeration, reordering setbacks, putting incidental open spaces in an orderly manner, among other benefits.

He said: “eTranzact is a premier technology solutions company in Nigeria. Today we are partnering with the Lagos State Government and LASPEMA for the enumeration and data management of the occupants of the setbacks and incidental open spaces within the City. We are licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to provide this service.

“The Lagos State government has taken this laudable initiative to identify the setbacks, enumerate the people on these setbacks, do the necessary data capture, and manage the entire setback infrastructure in the state so that it is structured; following the proper model for setbacks, improves beautification, improves transparency within the environment and ensures that our critical urban infrastructure is well laid out properly to ensure Lagos functions as a major critical landmark with global recognition.’’
