The Kaduna State government has confirmed the abduction of eight students of the Government Secondary School, Awon in Kachia local government area. They were kidnapped along with others on Monday.

In Kano State, the commissioner of police, Mamman Dauda has confirmed the abduction of two members of the family of the village head of Nasarawa in Tsanyawa local government area.

The victims are the wife of the village head, Halima Kabiru, 38, and a 20-year-old son, Dahiru Kabiru.

In a preliminary report earlier issued the Kaduna State government had said about 10 of the students may have been kidnapped. It however said the students were not kidnapped within the school premises.

In a statement issued by the commissioner for internal security and home affairs, Samuel Aruwan, he said the students were not kidnapped within the school premises but that they ran into the bandits who had earlier kidnapped some persons on their way home from school.

Aruwan said the management of the school had submitted the names and classes of the kidnapped students.

He said Kaduna State governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai has condemned the abduction describing the incident as unfortunate.

The governor said the government received assurances of efforts being exploited to rescue the eight students and other kidnapped citizens.

In another development, the Kaduna State government has relaxed the 24-hour curfew imposed on Sabon Garin Nasarawa – Tirkaniya community in Chikun LGA.

The government said, “The review follows close monitoring and assessment of the situation by security agencies.

“With effect from tomorrow, Wednesday 5th April 2023, the curfew will be in place from 7pm to 7am while residents of the area can go about their activities between 7:00am and 7:00pm.”

The government however advised residents of the community to comply with the curfew and maintain orderly conduct as security agencies continue to work in the affected areas.

According to the Kano State police commissioner, “On April 2, at about 12:45 am, we received information that seven gunmen stormed the residence of the village head of Nasarawa and kidnapped his wife and son.

“The kidnappers took the victims to an unknown destination.

“On receipt of the information, we immediately formed a rescue team in neighbouring Divisions. As we speak, the team is working assiduously to rescue the victims unhurt.”

He described the incident as unfortunate but expressed confidence that the victims would be rescued and the abductors arrested.
