Abducted Akwa Ibom High Court Judge, Unwana, Regains Freedom

Hon. Justice Joy Unwana, a judge at the Akwa Ibom High Court in Oron Judicial Division, who was kidnapped on Monday night while returning to Uyo, the state capital, after a court session, has been freed.

During the abduction, her police orderly was shot dead. The armed hoodlums, who also seized his rifle, fled with the Judge and the driver to an unknown destination.

Upon receiving the released Judge at Government House Uyo, Governor Umo Eno expressed gratitude to God for her safe release.

He also extended his appreciation to the security agencies for their swift response and dedication to duty.

The governor assured citizens that his administration would not tolerate criminal activities and charged security operatives to intensify surveillance and intelligence efforts to safeguard the state.

Governor Eno specifically commended the Ministry of Internal Security and Waterways, led by retired Army General Koko Essien as Commissioner. He emphasized the importance of strategic coordination and the utilization of local intelligence in handling security matters, urging for its continuation.

Expressing regret for the ordeal faced by the judge during her captivity, Governor Eno assured that those responsible for security infractions would face justice. He asserted his administration’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the state’s security.

Responding, Justice Unwana expressed gratitude to the Governor for his concern and efforts in securing her release. She described her harrowing experience during her time in captivity as an ordeal that no one should have to endure, even her adversaries.
