Abia State Environmental Sanitation Agency (ASEPA), Umuahia zone has threatened to apprehend and prosecute environmental sanitation violators in the zone.

The general manager of the zone, Ambrose Jonah stated this to LEADERSHIP Friday while inspecting a gully erosion site in Ubabiri Umuchime autonomous community, Ossah Ibeku.

Jonah said the ASEPA had set up a task force to monitor and apprehend such violators and warned residents of the zone against indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

According to him, in its bid to ensure and sustain environmental cleanliness of the zone, the ASEPA had provided refuse buckets at every dumping site.

Jonah, who underscored the need for the residents to make use of the buckets, assured the state government’s quick intervention at the site.

Similarly, the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Abel Ezigbo, lamented the extent of the erosion, noting that it had almost cut off the community from its neighbours.

Therefore, the monarch appealed to the government and other intervention agencies to come to the community’s rescue and prevent the situation from further damage.
