The All Progressives Congress in Abia State has distanced itself from a statement by its former publicity secretary, Okey Ezeala, purporting that it was in support of the state governor, Alex Otti.
In a statement signed by the chairman, Kingsley Ononogbu and secretary, Chidi Avaja, the party said Ezeala’s statement did by no means represent its position on the governorship seat which is a subject of legal challenge.
The statement noted that much as Ezeala was entitled to his personal position on the governorship seat being occupied by Otti in controversial circumstances, the party stands by the position of its 2023 governorship candidate, Ikechi Emenike.
The flag bearer is challenging the outcome of the 2023 gubernatorial contest at the tribunal.
To this end, the party stated that it would not waver in supporting its candidate until the matter is concluded through legal process.
It, therefore, appealed to its members and the general public to disregard Ezeala’s statement, adding that Emenike’s drive to rescue and develop the state was still on course.
