The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Council has applauded Governor Alex Otti over his choice of special adviser on media and publicity, and chief press secretary.
It appealed to him to consider an experienced professional journalist or mass communication practitioner as his commissioner for information.
In his first set of appointments after his inauguration on Monday, Otti announced Ferdinand Ekeoma, his long-time aide and Kazie Uko, a former staff of The Guardian as media aides.
The chapel stated this yesterday in a press release issued after its May monthly congress in the state capital, Umuahia, describing the appointments as putting square pegs in square holes.
Jointly signed by the chairman, Comrade Obinna Ibe; and the secretary, Henrietta Ashikodi, the release commended Otti for considering experienced media practitioners for both positions.
It noted that management of a state government information is so sensitive that it should not be placed in the hands of people without journalism or mass communication background.
The chapel argued that such appointment will make for more efficient information management and cordial relationship with media practitioners in the state.
The chapel pledged the support of its leadership and members for Otti in his bid to re-invent the state, while praying for God’s wisdom and guidance as he steers the ship of the state.
