Former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has said payment of pensions to former Abia State governors and deputy governors was daylight robbery.
“The pensions to the former governors and deputy governors were outrageous while those of ordinary retired workers were owed from 2014,” he said yesterday when he paid the state governor, Alex Otti a courtesy visit in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South local government.
He said after hearing the news, he called Otti to ask him what exactly happened and Otti told him that the pension scheme for the former governors and deputies were outrageous.
“It’s like trouble because it allowed them to have houses in Abuja and elsewhere. It also allowed them to cart away whatever they can, yet the pensions of ordinary people from 2014 are unpaid.
“What sort of leadership! You came and said there will be an end to that rascality. I congratulate you, and I say to you, I hope that your colleagues will follow your footstep,” he said.
He congratulated the Labour Party governor for his tenacity and for weathering the storm to become governor and reminded him that a lot of work needed to be done.
Responding, the Otti thanked Obasanjo for supporting the administration’s decision to repeal the pension law for former governors and former deputy governors of our state.
