Wife of Abia State governor, Pricila Otti, says she is ready to partner the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on its campaign against drug and substance abuse in the state.
Mrs Otti stated this in a statement by her chief press secretary, Ndubueze Justice after attending a two-day training organised by the agency on drug prevention, treatment and care for governors’ wives in Abuja.
The statement explained that the wives of the governors resolved to call on the federal government to declare a state of emergency on drug and substance abuse, and drug trafficking in the country.
It said they were charged with chairing their state drug control committees for effective implementation/rehabilitation programmes for former drug addicts to ensure their full physical and mental recovery.
“We will establish a dedicated channel to scale up gender responsive to drug demand-reduction and treatment interventions among female drug users who have very low rate of accessing treatment,” she stated.
Mrs Otti commended the dedication and efforts of the wife of the president, Senator Oluremi Tinubu towards the welfare and political emancipation of Nigerian women.
The state first lady, who was among those honoured at the occasion as Ambassadors for the War Against Drug Abuse by the agency, extolled the chairman, Brig-Gen Buba Marwa (rtd) for his vision for the agency.
