Abia Govt, ABSU Reach Compromise On Lingering Issues

Abia State government, management and the Senate of the state’s University Uturu (ABSU) have reached a compromise on lingering issues between the government and the university.

The compromise was reached during a meeting with governor Alex Otti at Umuehim Nvosi in Isialangwa South local government.

The issues include payment of salaries to both verified and unverified staff up to June, conclusion of ongoing verification exercise within one week, and Implementation of Treasury Single Account (TSA).

Speaking, Otti assured them of the commitment of the government to liquidate about N18 billion salary arrears incurred by the previous governments in the next one year on monthly rate of N1.5 billion

He directed the vice chancellor of the university, Maxwell Ogbulu to resolve all issues and complaints against the university’s Micro Finance Bank to ensure effective service delivery.

Otti, who allayed the fears of the management and the Senate about the TSA, explained that it is aimed at ensuring accountability, probity and to block revenue leakages..

In a remarks, the vice chancellor commended the governor for organising and hosting the meeting, noting that it afforded them a forum to interact on critical issues to the university.
