The chief press secretary to the Abia State governor, Njoku Ukoha, has issued a statement stating that two commissioners have resigned from the state executive council.

The former commissioners are Mr Chima Oriaku, science and technology and Prof Monica Ironkwe, agriculture.

In the statement issued yesterday and made available to newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital, Ukoha did not state reasons for their resignation.

“The executive governor thanked them for their service and sacrifice to the state and wish them well in their future endeavours,” the statement said.

However, earlier yesterday, an unconfirmed viral report indicated that Governor Alex Otti relieved the commissioners of their appointments.

LEADERSHIP recalls that last month, the former health commissioner, Dr Ngozi Okoronkwo, was relieved of her appointment over alleged gross abuse of office.

Efforts to reach the former commissioner for agriculture for confirmation of the report on her mobile phone were unsuccessful.

In response, Abraham Amah, vice chairman/acting publicity secretary of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the report was a sign of a lack of confidence in the government.
