Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Mary Ikoku, has declared her intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Arochukwu–Ohafia Federal Constituency in Abia State, pledging inclusive and people-focused leadership.
Ikoku made the declaration at an event held in Arochukwu Tuesday, which attracted party leaders, stakeholders, and grassroots executives from across Arochukwu and Ohafia local government areas.
Addressing supporters, she said her ambition was driven by the need to deliver accountable representation and address key challenges facing the constituency, including youth unemployment, economic hardship, and limited access to basic services.
“This is a continuation of a journey of service and a commitment to ensure that the resources meant for our constituency truly work for our people,” she said.
The aspirant outlined plans to prioritise youth and women empowerment through capacity-building initiatives, entrepreneurship support, and technology-driven platforms, alongside legislative efforts to tackle systemic development gaps.
She also emphasised the importance of unity among stakeholders, calling for collaboration ahead of the party primaries.
“I am committed to working with all leaders and stakeholders to build a strong and united platform that will deliver real results,” Ikoku added.
Some stakeholders at the event described her candidacy as timely and credible, noting that it reflects growing calls for inclusive representation in the constituency.
Her entry into the race is expected to reshape political dynamics in the Arochukwu–Ohafia Federal Constituency ahead of the next general elections.
