The member representing Obingwa West constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu Uchenna-Erondu has insisted that he won the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Abia South for the 2027 general election.
‎
‎He also rejected alleged report that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC had substituted his candidature with another aspirant, Prince Paul Ikonne, the second runner-up in the primaries.
‎
‎In a statement made available to the press in Umuahia, the state capital, he said he stands by his victory at the May 18, 2026 primaries conducted across the 65 electoral wards in the district.
‎
‎Describing such decision as unlawful, unconstitutional, and of no legal effect, the onetime chairman of Obingwa local government area cited Section 33 of the Electoral Act, 2026 to back his stand.
‎
‎He expressed concern about the report after he had been officially declared winner of the primaries and returned as the candidate by the APC Primary Election Committee for the district constituted by the NWC.
‎
‎The chairman of the House Committee on Public Service further argued that the exercise was fair, credible, and transparent, and also conducted in line with the APC guidelines, and the Electoral Act.
‎
‎To buttress his position, he informed that the primaries were monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) among others.
‎
‎The lawmaker also maintained that the lNEC issued a Certified True Copy (CTC) of the APC Abia South Senatorial Primary Election Report on June 30, 2026, confirming his election.
‎
‎”I am alive. I have not withdrawn my candidature. I have never signed or submitted any notice withdrawing my candidature to the All Progressives Congress,” he declared.
‎
‎He expressed confidence that truth, justice, and justice would prevail on the matter and urged the NWC and other concerned organs of the APC to respect his mandate as freely given.
‎
‎The statement said following the development, Uchenna-Erondu had urged APC members in the district, his supporters, and his support groups to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
‎
‎It added “He advised them not to be distracted by rumours or misinformation but to remain committed to supporting the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
‎
