Abia State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has blacklisted the mayor of Umuahia North local government area, Smart Iheoma, for disrespecting some members of the council.

The council also directed its entire members to boycott activities and functions of the area which together with Umuahia South local government area make up the state capital, Umuahia.

This is contained in a 10-point communique issued at the end of its June monthly congress presided over by the chairman, Chidi Asonye in Umuahia.

The congress had received a report that Iheoma had during last month’s environmental sanitation exercise in the state insulted the members while they were covering the exercise.

According to the report, Iheoma, for unexplained reasons, insulted them and threatened to bar the council members from covering the state government’s functions.
