Permanent secretary of Abia State Ministry of Lands and Housing, Ukeje Ukpabi, has said that leaders at all levels in Nigeria must show commitment to excellence to move the country forward.
Ukpabi stated this at the inauguration ceremony of newly elected leaders of the staff association of the ministry in Umuahia, the state capital, urging them to deliver quality services to the members.
“What you do at this level will go a long way to determine your future either in the service or in the larger society. So, work hard to justify the confidence the members have reposed in you,” he said.
He used the forum to remind the ministry staff of Governor Alex Otti’s recent announcement of promotions and extolled the governor for the gesture.
The town planner also notified them of several capacity-building programmes the government had arranged for the civil servants and urged them to key into them to enhance their growth.
He underlined the need to educate and equip themselves on the service rules by using the documents and always working by government policy guidelines.
Ukpabi, who warned them against engaging in unethical, dubious activities and falsifying personal and official documents, assured them that a bright future awaits them in the service.
“Don’t cheat in any job you do. God hates cheating, and we need to tell ourselves the truth. Avoid colleagues who cheat because one day their sins will be made public with consequences,” he said.
In an acceptance address, the association’s new chairman, Jacobson Akandu, assured the members of his commitment to delivering quality leadership and solicited their support and cooperation.
