Abia State has recorded three cases of measles in Umunneochi and Arochukwu local government areas. The cases occurred in the northern part of the state but the two councils do not share boundaries.
The information and strategy commissioner, Okey Kanu, disclosed this along with three of his colleagues who spoke on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting in Umuahia, the state capital. He said that the administration had recorded more successes in road rehabilitation in Aba and renovation of facilities at Ummunneato and Okpuala Ngwa General Hospitals, which will be commissioned soon.
On the measle cases, his health counterpart, Ngozi Okoronkwo, said the government was investigating to identify the children and to ascertain when the condition started.
“For us, once it gets to that number it’s already declared an outbreak. We are trying to identify them and avert any further spread. And, as I speak, it is under control,” she added.
