Substitute Tammy Abraham netted his inaugural Premier League goal for Aston Villa since his return, as the hosts snatched a dramatic draw against Leeds United.

The visitors appeared poised for only their second away league victory of the season after Anton Stach’s superb 30-yard free-kick put them ahead. Stach, who seemingly aimed for the far post, caught Emiliano Martinez off-guard, firing the ball into the top corner in the 31st minute.

However, Abraham, who rejoined Villa in an £18.2m deal from Besiktas at the close of the January transfer window, levelled the score at 1-1. He cleverly flicked the ball in with his knee after Ezri Konsa won a knockdown from a corner.

For Villa, a win would have seen them draw level on points with second-placed Manchester City. It was a deserved point, given their dominance after falling behind. They had a golden opportunity to equalise in first-half injury time, but Karl Darlow produced an excellent save to thwart Amadou Onana. The hosts continued to press, with Darlow making another superb one-handed stop to push Emiliano Buendia’s effort onto the post.

But Darlow was finally beaten in the 88th minute as Villa secured a valuable point.

Villa remain third, seven points adrift of leaders Arsenal, who face Tottenham in the North London derby on Sunday. Meanwhile, Leeds’ point moves them seven clear of the relegation zone.
