The Abuja All Stars Veterans Tournament has continues to gain momentum among participating teams and spectators alike with top dignitaries, including the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, gracing the matchday 2 of the event

Holding at the heart of the Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, the tournament has quickly become a premier gathering for not just retired footballers but also influential figures from various sectors.

The CG of Customs, Adeniyi, who was visibly impressed by the level of soccer artistry on play despite many players being well into their 40s and 50s, expressed his admiration and gave a thumbs-up to the participating teams for their skill, energy and passion.

With CG Adeniyi and other captains of industry in attendance, the Veterans Tournament is not only becoming a showcase of football talent but also an important social event that is bringing together leaders from various sectors. The tournament promises more excitement as it heads into the next round of matches.

The tournament, which boasted some of Nigeria’s football legends like Samson Siasia, Austin Eguavoen, Garba Lawal, and Tijani Babangida as its ambassadors, has also attracted a slew of national celebrities and former Super Eagles players. It has provided a unique opportunity for these icons to network, reconnect with old friends and relive the camaraderie of their playing days. The atmosphere of the competition has turned into a melting pot of sportsmanship and nostalgia, making it an event of both football and social significance.

On the field, Kuje All Stars have established themselves as early tournament favorites after extending their unbeaten run with back-to-back wins over Apo Fitness All Stars and Police Machine Legends, solidifying their position as one of the most formidable teams in the tournament.

Gwagwalada All Stars are also making waves, following up their opening day win with a dominant 5-1 thrashing of Capital Sportiff Sports Club. The match was a one-sided affair, with Gwagwalada’s superiority evident from the start. Capital Sportiff, despite pulling one goal back, was unable to match the fluidity and tactical prowess of Gwagwalada, further highlighting the gulf in class between the two sides.

Meanwhile, defending champions, All Stars International, found their dominance under serious threat as Jabi All Stars put up an impressive performance in a thrilling encounter. The match was filled with end-to-end action right from the start, as both teams fought hard to take control of the game. Jabi All Stars, who were considered underdogs going into the match, defied expectations with their resilient defense and sharp counterattacks. Despite several near misses from both sides, the game ended in a goalless draw, leaving All Stars International frustrated but relieved to escape with a point.

Jabi’s performance sent a clear message to the rest of the competition that they are not a team to be taken lightly. Their ability to hold the defending champions to a stalemate has raised eyebrows, and they could very well be dark horses as the tournament progresses.
