The club’s first charter president, Rotarian Mariam Ahmed Abdullahi, emphasised the club’s commitment to community service and project implementation, saying the club’s focus areas include empowering women and youth, promoting maternal and child health, and supporting education.
Abdullahi highlighted the club’s partnership with the Institute of Human Virology (IHVN) in providing free testing, treatment, and care for HIV patients in communities.

The event also recognised individuals and organisations contributing to Rotary’s causes. Among the Awardees was the AMAC Chairman, the Honorable Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, for his contribution to providing a peaceful and healthy environment for Rotary.

Abdullahi emphasised the importance of fundraising for the club’s projects, stating that the funds raised would support initiatives such as training and start-up kits for Youths and women entrepreneurs, support their adopted communities with the basic needs around Rotary International’s seven areas of focus aimed at making a positive impact in communities and contribute to Rotary’s global mission.

She informed me that the charter celebration marked a significant milestone for the Rotary Club of Abuja Highrise. She thanked members, partners, and supporters for their service and community development commitment.

Also, Dr. Victor Onukua, Past District Governor 9127 who also is a serving member of the Council on Legislation for Rotary International while representing the District Governor, Mike Ukachi Nwanoshiri, said he is thrilled to celebrate the charter presentation of the new Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Abuja Highrise.

He said, “This milestone marks a significant growth for our Rotary International District, and I’m honoured to represent the District Governor at this event”.

According to him, since its inception in September, the club has already made a remarkable impact, and “I’m excited to see the potential of its members; we’re committed to serving humanity, providing essential services like clean water, education, and healthcare to those in need.”

“I’m confident that this club will thrive, given the calibre of its members. I challenge them to grow the club to at least 50 members by the Rotary year’s end and give generously to the Rotary Foundation. This foundation drives our global humanitarian efforts, and I encourage the club to become major donors”. He added

The District Governor commended the members for supporting the Rotary Foundation. “Some members have already taken the first step by becoming Paul Harris Fellows, demonstrating their commitment to the Rotary Foundation. I’m eager to see the positive impact this club will have on our community and the world at large”.

The President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Urban, Rabi Muhammad, said, “Highrise is a newly chartered club in Abuja. As a new club, it is required to host a charter event, which brings together its members and introduces them to other clubs.”

She explained that this event also allowed the club to raise funds for their charity projects. Despite being under six months old, Highrise has made significant progress and is doing exceptionally well.

“As Rotarians, our charity work is motivated by the understanding that everyone in the world has needs that are not being met. Rotary clubs worldwide strive to make a positive impact by touching the lives of those in need”.

“We aim to ensure every community can access clean water, healthcare, and education. Rotary has a long history of making a positive difference in communities around the world,” she said.
