Abuja Hosts Maiden China-Africa Audiovisual Showcase

A new chapter in cultural exchange between China and Nigeria began on December 8th with the successful launch of the “China-Africa Audiovisual Showcase” at the Chinese Cultural Center in Abuja.

The event, co-organised by China’s National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, drew over 100 dignitaries and representatives from media institutions of both nations.

The ceremony was graced by high-profile speakers, including H.E. Yu Dunhai, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Shi Zhiyan, First-Grade Counsel of the Department of International Cooperation, NRTA, Mr. Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Mr. Charles Ebuebu, Director-General of the Nigerian National Broadcasting Commission (NBC),Mr. Raymond Dokpesi Jnr, Chairman of the Daar communications Plc, Owners of AIT and Raypower FM attended the event and delivered speeches.

Timed ahead of the 55th anniversary of Sino-Nigerian diplomatic relations and the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, the showcase will bring nearly 20 acclaimed Chinese productions to Nigerian audiences.

Selected titles such as “Welcome to Milele Village,” “The Ideal City,” the animated feature “Meng Wa,” and the documentary “The Panda Adventure” are set to air on major Nigerian networks, including the African Independent Television (AIT), the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and the Nigeria Customs Broadcasting Network (NCBN).

Beyond screenings, the event offered an immersive experience. A dedicated exhibition corridor showcased posters of Chinese programs for Nigerian media partners.

Attendees were also treated to unique cultural interactions, featuring a live dubbing performance of a Chinese cartoon by Nigerian voice actors and a special screening of the documentary “The Panda Adventure.”

The showcase aims to build a vibrant bridge of understanding and friendship, using the power of film and television to deepen connections between the peoples of China and Nigeria.
