The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has extended the date for full implementation of its Single Revenue Account Policy.

The shift, which came shortly after the policy’s initial rollout phase for the 2026 fiscal year, is attributed to essential technical upgrades required for a seamless transition.

The council’s transition to a unified digital payment platform, aimed at curbing revenue leakages and eliminating manual cash handling, encountered “technical glitches” involving the synchronisation of the AMAC Smart Tax portal with various commercial bank interfaces and the central treasury system.

In a statement, the AMAC chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, explained that the extension is a proactive measure to protect taxpayers from potential system errors or double-billing during the integration phase.

Maikalangu said the interim guidelines for 2026 revenue collection and administration has provided the following directives: “That business owners are advised that currently active official payment channels remain valid until the new system is fully certified.

“Taxpayers are urged to verify any ‘Demand Notice’ received, as only notices featuring the verified AMAC digital headers for 2026 should be honoured.

”That a new specific ‘Go-Live’ date for the mandatory Single Account usage will be broadcast once the technical audit is completed,” he said.

According to the chairman, despite the delay, the council reiterated its hardline stance against unauthorised revenue collectors.

“Our ban on cash payments to individuals remains in force. This extension is simply to ensure that when the portal opens fully, every kobo is instantly accounted for without error,” he said.

The chairman warned residents to be wary of individuals posing as ‘technical consultants’ attempting to capitalise on this extension to solicit private payments.
