Abuja Sports Club Plant Grasses To Mark International Youth Day

A fast-growing sports club, Abuja9800 Sports Club, has planted natural grasses in their play area to mark the 2023 International Youth Day on Saturday.

International Youth Day is commemorated every year on August 12, to bring youth issues to the attention of the international community and to also celebrate the potential of youth as partners in today’s global society.

The Club said that as the world goes green, the idea was aimed at creating environmental awareness, change in behaviour and lifestyle to reduce the amount of pollution and waste people generate.

The theme of International Youth Day 2023 is “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World.”

The club’s members, who were joined by volunteers from the community, planted a variety of grasses.

The grasses planted were chosen for their ability to withstand the hot and humid climate of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

The club’s Public Relations Officer, Ini Archibong, said the grass planting exercise on the occasion of 20223 International Youth Day was part of the club’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

“We believe that sports can play a role in promoting environmental awareness,” he said, adding that, “By planting grass, we are helping to improve the quality of the air and water in our community.”

Archibong further said the grass planting is a great example of how young people can take action to protect the environment.
