The national leadership of the Accord Party has disowned an alleged parallel governorship primary conducted in Osun State, describing it as a “charade” orchestrated by political hirelings to undermine Nigeria’s democratic process.
In a press release issued on Monday by its National Secretariat in Abuja, and signed by the national publicity secretary, Joseph Omorogbe, Accord said the purported primary election was staged by “fun-seeking fellows” and sponsored by opposition figures in Osun State who are unsettled by the emergence of Governor Ademola Adeleke as the party’s governorship flag bearer.
The party stated that the exercise was swiftly disowned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which reportedly declared it null and void, stressing that the electoral body was unaware of any such primary.
According to Accord, INEC described the exercise as a kangaroo process aimed at causing unnecessary confusion in a state that has remained peaceful and stable since Governor Adeleke assumed office.
Accord said it would not waste energy responding to what it called frivolities from “jokers and political nomads,” insisting that the focus of the party and its candidate remains on governance rather than political distractions.
The party further noted that Governor Adeleke, whom it described as a compassionate and people-oriented leader, is committed to delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Osun State and would not be distracted by what it termed the antics of the main opposition party in the state.
Accord also announced that it is witnessing an influx of new members across the country, welcoming Nigerians who have recently joined or indicated interest in joining the party. According to the statement, the party is open to accommodating millions of citizens seeking good governance and a brighter future.
The statement called for unity, stability, security and prosperity among Nigerians.
