The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has  said it has begun moves to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections, with plans to adopt new electoral guidelines, amend its constitution and fix a date for its national convention.

National chairman of the party, Engineer Yusuf Yabagi Sani, disclosed this in Abuja while addressing members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the media at the party’s meeting.

Sani said the NEC meeting, held at what he described as a “defining moment” for the party and Nigeria’s democracy, would deliberate on key reforms aimed at strengthening internal processes and boosting the party’s electoral readiness.

According to him, the party has, in recent months, undertaken structural reforms, including expanding its membership base across states and wards, and digitising its operations to enhance transparency and inclusiveness.

“The Action Democratic Party is steadily emerging as a credible alternative that Nigerians have been waiting for,” he said.

On preparations for the 2027 elections, the chairman said the party would adopt consensus-based primaries in line with the Electoral Act 2026 and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regulations.

He assured that the process would be transparent, fair and inclusive, adding that the party would field credible and competent candidates capable of winning elections and delivering effective governance.

Sani stressed the need for unity and discipline within the party as it approaches critical milestones, including its national convention and primaries.

“There is no room for division. The interest of the party must always supersede individual ambition,” he said.

The ADP also outlined its position on national issues, citing economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and declining public trust in governance as key challenges facing the country.

The chairman said the party would focus on people-centred economic policies, security reforms and transparent governance anchored on accountability and the rule of law.

He further said the NEC would consider adoption of updated electoral guidelines for 2027, proposed amendments to the party’s constitution, and modalities for the national convention, alongside measures to strengthen compliance with INEC requirements.

Addressing Nigerians, Sani urged citizens to support the party, describing it as a platform built on integrity, competence and national unity.

“This is your party. This is your platform,” he said.

The ADP is among political parties positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections, as consultations and internal alignments gather momentum across the political landscape.
