The executive director, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflicts Resolution (CHRCR), Comrade Idris Miliki Abdul, has commended Kogi State government for taking proactive measures tot curb security challenges in the state.

Abdul gave the commendation while reacting to the temporal closure of primary and secondary schools and some markets and motor parks in the western senatorial district to allow for full military operations to rid the state of criminal elements.

The activist urged the state government to engage and train  at least 20  vigilantes in the 239 wards of the state to complement the efforts  of the conventional security agencies.

“Most of the conventional security personnel are not from Kogi State and it is difficult for them to know the nooks and cronies of the state particularly the rural areas. Engaging, training and equipping  people from the local government under vigilante group will go a long way in complementing the activities of other security agencies,” he stated.

Abdul who attributed violent extremism in Nigeria to  political and economic factors such as poor governance,  corruption, inequality, and unemployment, admonished government at all levels to establish strong institution that will address the challenges.

“To effectively counter the evolving threat of violent extremism across Nigeria, it is imperative to align the efforts of the federal, state and local governments under a unified, coherent framework that promotes consistency, accountability, and shared objectives.

“Fragmented interventions where each tier of government operates in isolation have led to duplication of effort, policy contradictions, and inefficient resources utilization. A harmonized approach ensure that all actors are working toward a common vision, with clearly defined roles and measurable outcomes,” he said.
