The Adamawa State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has earmarked ₦8 billion for poverty alleviation programmes in the 2026 fiscal year, marking one of the largest single budgetary commitments to poverty reduction by any state government in Nigeria.

The substantial allocation is designed to strengthen economic inclusion and improve livelihoods across the state through a range of targeted interventions. Central to the initiative is the Fintiri Business Wallet Scheme, which provides ₦50,000 grants to residents to support micro and small-scale businesses, particularly at the grassroots level.

In addition, the funding will support skills acquisition and vocational training programmes aimed at empowering youths and women with practical skills to enhance employability and promote self-reliance. These programmes are expected to contribute to job creation, increased household income and sustainable economic growth.

Implementation of the initiatives will be carried out by the Adamawa State Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA), the government body responsible for coordinating poverty reduction and wealth creation strategies in the state.

Government officials say the scale of the ₦8 billion allocation reflects the Fintiri administration’s commitment to addressing poverty through structured, inclusive and impact-driven policies. They added that the programmes are aligned with the administration’s broader development agenda of expanding economic opportunities and reducing vulnerability among citizens.

With this significant investment, Adamawa State positions itself as one of the leading sub-national governments in Nigeria in terms of direct financial commitment to poverty alleviation and grassroots economic empowerment.
