Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has flagged off the construction of the Kofare, Mbamba and Saminaka Solar Hybrid Interconnected Mini Grid.

The government described the project as a major step toward addressing energy poverty and expanding access to reliable electricity in Adamawa State.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, the governor said the project was the first major interconnected solar-hybrid mini-grid designed to serve the three communities.

He added that it would improve electricity supply, stimulate economic activity, and enhance residents’ quality of life.

He noted that the project is part of his administration’s broader strategy to promote renewable energy and attract private sector investment into the state’s electricity sector.

He recalled that the initiative followed engagements with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and renewable energy investors during the “Empowering Adamawa: Unlocking Private Sector Opportunities in Distributed Renewable Energy” roundtable held in Abuja in 2025.

According to him, the state government introduced incentives, including credit guarantees, concessional financing opportunities, and free land for solar farms, to encourage investment in renewable energy projects across the state.

He said the mini grid project represents the successful outcome of those engagements and demonstrates the government’s commitment to translating investment discussions into tangible development.

He commended the partnership involving Mahashakti Nigeria Limited, the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), and the Rural Electrification Agency, describing it as a model for sustainable public-private collaboration in expanding electricity access.

They announced that more than 20 solar-powered mini grids approved by the Rural Electrification Agency are currently being deployed across Adamawa State to provide electricity to underserved communities.

The Governor also disclosed that the state had allocated land at no cost for the project to facilitate its implementation and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating an investor-friendly environment for renewable energy development.

He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating an enabling environment for increased private-sector participation in the power sector. He commended the Rural Electrification Agency and its Managing Director, Abba Aliyu, for expanding nationwide access to electricity.

Governor Fintiri called on residents of Kofare, Mbamba, and Saminaka to take ownership of the project and protect the facilities, stressing that the mini grids would power homes, schools, healthcare facilities, and businesses, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of the benefiting communities.

The ceremony was attended by the officials of the Rural Electrification Agency, representatives of Mahashakti Nigeria Limited and the Yola Electricity Distribution Company, traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
