The Adamawa State Government, in partnership with CARITAS, has commissioned a 60,000-litre solar-powered water supply project at the Malkohi Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Yola South Local Government Area.
Implemented through the Ministry for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Humanitarian Services, the project is designed to address persistent water shortages and improve access to safe and reliable water for displaced persons and members of the host community.
The facility features 13 water collection points strategically located across the camp to make water more accessible to residents.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Pharmacist Zira Buba Nani, urged beneficiaries to use the facility responsibly and ensure its proper maintenance.
He called on members of the IDP and host communities to protect the water infrastructure so that it could continue to serve their shared needs.
According to a statement issued by the ministry’s Information Unit, the intervention is expected to improve living conditions and community well-being by providing a sustainable water supply.
The ministry described the project as an example of the role partnerships between government and humanitarian organisations can play in meeting the essential needs of vulnerable populations and supporting durable solutions for displaced communities.
