A lightning strike believed to be mysterious has killed six children and two others severely wounded in the Ganye local government area of Adamawa state.
The chairman of the local government, Mr Puren Kamsobbi, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with LEADERSHIP on Monday.
Kamsobbi said he had directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area to investigate the incident to ascertain the immediate and remote cause and report back to his office.
He said the corpses of the children were returned to their parents for burial in accordance with Muslim rites.
The council boss advised people to relocate to safe areas for shelter when it is raining.
“At the moment, the local government is awaiting police findings over the sad incident, which will be made public.
“People should avoid taking cover under trees or uncompleted buildings when it is raining” The incident, which occurred at Dadiri Tirgali village, was said to have killed the children working on a farm on Sunday.
The chairman confirmed that the injured victims had been taken to Ganye General Hospital and were receiving medical attention.
