Adamawa government has unveiled incentives to encourage massive dry season farming as the dry season approaches.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, during the “Mega Farmers’ Brown Field Day”, said erratic rain and destruction to farmlands by floods in the recent past makes famine likely.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, commissioner of Agriculture, David Jatau said fertiliser, chemicals and other farm inputs would be made available for farmers to boost dry season farming in the state.
“We are set to support dry season farmers with all the inputs they will need,” the commissioner said.
Earlier, the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), said the program is a five and half-year $15.8 million intervention being implemented by the IITA and her partner, International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT).
The activity is targeted to supports vulnerable population disenfranchised by the Boko Haram conflict and seeks to re-engage the population in basic farming activities.
