The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kogi State has rejected the purported suspension of congresses, attributing the directive to a parallel structure led by Kingsley Ogga interim arrangement.
In a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Abdulmalik Suleiman, the party directed members and stakeholders to disregard the suspension, insisting that only the National Working Committee has the authority to halt or alter the party’s electoral processes.
The state executive committee said the suspension of congresses, allegedly issued by an Ogga-led interim committee, contravenes both the party’s constitution and the resolution of the National Executive Committee, which had approved the continuation of congresses nationwide ahead of the National Convention.
According to the statement, no such interim body is recognised under the party’s constitution, rendering its actions null and void.
The leadership urged aspirants, delegates, and party faithful across Kogi State to remain calm, law-abiding, and fully mobilised, assuring that all congresses, from ward to national level, will proceed as scheduled.
The development comes amid a widening leadership crisis within the party, as Kingsley Ogga, outgoing Kogi state chairman, alongside some state chairmen, had earlier rejected key figures from opposing blocs within the party, including former Senate President, David Mark and Nafiu Bala, who belong to different factions.
The group subsequently announced the formation of a National Interim Committee headed by Kingsley Temitope Ogga and Odion Kennedy to conduct fresh elections, a move that has broken the party into three factions .
The Kogi ADC reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, due process, and the rule of law, warning against attempts to derail the party’s constitutional processes.
