The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has conducted its state congress in Bauchi, electing a state executive committee, with Alhaji Shu’aibu Abdullahi Dankama emerging as the state chairman.

The congress, held on weekend at Yemir Hotel, was supervised by Maj. Gen. S.A. Audu (Rtd.) and the party’s deputy national secretary, Hajiya Hauwa Yusuf. Officials from the party’s national headquarters said their presence was to ensure the exercise complied with established guidelines and internal regulations.

Dankama and others over 30 EXCO who emerged through a consensus arrangement, pledged to reposition the party by strengthening its structures from the polling unit level up to the state level. He assured members of his commitment to fairness, discipline, internal democracy, and inclusiveness.

He also promised to prioritise youth engagement, women empowerment, and the inclusion of persons with disabilities, while mobilising grassroots support to build a credible alternative for governance.

Taking over from Hassan Haruna, Dankama expressed appreciation to the national leadership and party members for a transparent and peaceful process conducted between April 9 and 11, 2026.

“Every growing political party experiences disagreements and differing opinions. This is not a weakness but a sign of vitality,” he said, urging members to move beyond internal contestations towards unity and electoral success.

He stressed the need for cohesion, noting that the future of the party depends on unity and stability. He also reaffirmed loyalty to the party’s national leadership under Senator David Mark.

“Our mission is to reposition the ADC as a united, people-centred, and electorally competitive force in Bauchi State. Though the task requires sacrifice and patience, it is achievable,” he added.

Also speaking, a key stakeholder of the party in Bauchi state, Senator Suleiman Nazif Gamawa, said the congress demonstrated resilience and organisational capacity, laying a solid foundation for the party’s ambition to take power in 2027.

“We are confident that victory will be ours. Our members are energised and united, and both outgoing and incoming executives are aligned to ensure lasting unity,” he said.

Gamawa reaffirmed the party’s commitment to transparent, inclusive, and service-driven leadership, expressing optimism about the ADC’s chances in the 2027 general elections.

He further noted that Nigerians are increasingly aligning with the ADC, describing the party as a fast-rising opposition platform.

Calling for broader alliances, he urged other political parties to join forces with the ADC to build a strong opposition capable of challenging the ruling party of APC in next general elections.

“This is a defining moment. Together, we can provide purposeful leadership that restores confidence and delivers real progress for Nigerians,” he said.
