The National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mallam Jafaru Muhammed Sani, has combined his Eid el-Fitr message with a strong political statement, extending greetings to Muslims nationwide while condemning what he described as the “unjust detention” of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai.
In a goodwill message marking the end of Ramadan, Sani called for unity, peace, and resilience among Nigerians, stressing the need to uphold the values of sacrifice, compassion, and togetherness imbibed during the holy month.
He offered prayers for Nigeria’s peace, stability, and progress, urging citizens not to lose hope despite prevailing challenges, as the ADC intensifies efforts to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sani, however, expressed concern over the alleged detention of El-Rufai, describing it as a threat to democratic norms.
He called on the judiciary and relevant government institutions to uphold the rule of law and ensure fairness in handling political matters.
“The ADC condemns these actions in the strongest terms,” he said, warning that arbitrary detention of opposition figures could erode public trust in democratic institutions and signal a dangerous drift toward authoritarianism.
He emphasized that democracy can only thrive in an environment where fundamental rights are respected, due process is followed, and dissenting voices are accommodated.
The ADC chieftain also urged party supporters to actively participate in the ongoing membership registration exercise and to ensure that forthcoming ward, local government, and state congresses are conducted peacefully and transparently.
“As we celebrate this Sallah, let us renew our commitment to justice, democracy, and unity,” Sani said. “Together, we can build a Kaduna State and Nigeria that reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people.”
