Former Senate President David Mark on Wednesday sought to calm mounting anxiety within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting that internal disagreements will not derail the party’s cohesion or future.

His remarks come against the backdrop of lingering factional disputes and competing claims to leadership, developments that have fuelled uncertainty over the party’s readiness for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a church service held to mark his 78th birthday, Mark, who also doubles as the ADC’s national chairman, downplayed the crisis, describing it as a routine phase in the evolution of a growing political platform.

“There is no cause for alarm,” he said, assuring party faithful and Nigerians that the situation remains under control.
According to him, internal challenges are not unusual in political organisations and should be viewed as part of a broader process of strengthening institutional capacity.

“Challenges are a natural part of any growing institution. What matters is our collective determination to rise above them,” he stated.

Mark maintained that, despite the tensions, the party’s core structure remains intact, with its leadership and members aligned on key objectives.
“We remain united, determined, and focused on strengthening the party and upholding democratic values,” he said.

He further linked the party’s stability to the health of Nigeria’s democracy, reiterating the ADC’s commitment to national development and democratic consolidation.

“We are fully committed to the survival of democracy and the development of our dear nation, Nigeria,” he added.

The former Senate President also pledged that the party would continue to prioritise good governance and work towards ensuring that democratic gains translate into tangible benefits for citizens.

“We will continue to work tirelessly, guided by discipline, integrity, and patriotism, to ensure that our democratic institutions are preserved and that the dividends of democracy reach all our people,” he said.
