African Democratic Congress (ADC) has asserted that it would harvest over 10 million votes from the South East zone in the 2027 general election.

The party, in a communique signed by its national vice chairman South East, Comrade Chilos Godsent, and zonal publicity secretary, ThankGod Ofoelue, declared its readiness to dominate the region’s political space.

But the national vice chairman (South East) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ijeomah Arodiogbu, has dismissed the ADC, saying that it doesn’t pose any threat to the party.

Arodiogbu, in a chat with LEADERSHIP, after a meeting of APC members in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, said his party remains formidable in the region.

However, ADC in its communique, said it is determined to rebuild, rebrand and reposition itself to win all the elective positions in the zone during the 2027 polls.

The meeting, which was attended by delegates and party chieftains from all five states of the South East zone, deliberated on strategies to strengthen ADC structures, from the polling units to the state level.

The party also focused on consolidating the party’s position as the preferred platform for a coalition to defeat what it described as the “reactionary and bankrupt All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government.”

They said, “ADC South East is committed to mobilising over ten million members into ADC in the South East before the end of 2025.”

The party highlighted that its resolve was not just to participate in elections but to win in grand style.

“In 2027, ADC will not contest elections for the sake of contesting elections but with intention to win elections. The Party will feature candidates that will win elections in all the elective positions in South East in 2027.”

On his part, ‎APC national vice chairman, Arodiogbu, said the ADC doesn’t border his party.

He described the ADC as a party of desperados, adding “We’re not bothered about them and our government is very formidable and in the right direction.”

“We’re not interested in politicking. We’re more interested in giving good governance to Nigerians and thinking about the future of the nation.”

The zonal chairman encouraged the chapter to work harder, build unity across different levels of the party, and to work as a family as shown by its symbol.

“The symbol is a hand holding a bunch of broom tied together, not a broom stick, which signifies unity. The strength in unity is the strength of our party.”

‎In a reaction to a group of protesters during the meeting that he came to conduct a congress, Arodiogbu said “I’m not here to conduct a congress.

‎”I’m here to take stock of the leadership of our chapter. I’m here to see how the party is faring and to encourage the chapter to work hard for the upcoming in the country.

‎”APC hasn’t started congress. We’ve a National Executive Council meeting on Thursday. It is after that meeting that the direction of the party congresses will be known.

‎”The protest is expected and I appreciate their concern. It shows that they’re desirous to work for the party and we’ll be able to address their concerns in due course.

‎On his assessment of the stock taking, he said the party is moving on well under the leadership of the chairman, Kingsley Ononogbu.

‎”I’m impressed with the turnup despite that today is Sunday. All the members invited were present and we have taken note and cognizant of that,” he said.
