The Presidency has dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was plotting to destabilise the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the claims as baseless, insisting that the issues raised by the ADC were purely internal matters for the party to resolve.
Onanuga stated this in a reply to an enquiry by LEADERSHIP on Monday while reacting to a statement by the ADC accusing figures within the APC of attempting to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Mr. Nafiu Bala Gombe, whom the party said had been expelled, as its National Chairman.
The ADC had alleged that the move was part of a broader plan to weaken the opposition and ensure that President Bola Tinubu emerges as the only serious presidential contender in the 2027 election.
But responding to the allegation, Onanuga said the crisis within the ADC had nothing to do with the ruling party or the President.
“This is an ADC party matter. Let the party resolve its internal issues and stop its wild accusations against the APC and President Tinubu,” Onanuga said.
He added that the electoral umpire was capable of speaking for itself on issues concerning party leadership and recognition.
“INEC will speak for itself,” the presidential aide said.
The ADC had earlier claimed in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, that powerful figures within the ruling party were allegedly plotting to impose Mr. Gombe on the party’s leadership.
The party also maintained that its leadership remained under Senator David Mark, citing a combined meeting of its National Working Committee and National Executive Committee witnessed by officials of INEC in July 2025.
